  • Dr. Michael F. Lembeck, Technical Advisor - A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Lembeck has an extraordinarily broad background in civil, military, and commercial space. He served at the highest level of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). At NASA, he designed advanced spacecraft like the Exploration Transfer Vehicle and was a visionary that helped build the foundation for the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program. He was a principle author of the Vision for Space Exploration to return to the Moon and on to Mars. A seasoned aerospace engineer, his career has been dedicated to developing advanced spacecraft. After teaching at his alma mater and a tour at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where he helped design the highly successful Galileo mission to Jupiter, Dr. Lembeck went to work for Max Faget, the designer of the Mercury and Gemini spacecraft, when he created an innovative new commercial space company, Space Industries. Dr. Lembeck was the principle designer of the firm’s Wake Shield spacecraft, a platform that generated an ultra-pure vacuum in low-Earth orbit for space-based epitaxy experiments. Joining another forward-thinking commercial space venture, Orbital Sciences Corporation, he was a key figure in the development of their OrbView series of spacecraft. When at NASA, Dr. Lembeck was a strong promoter of new start-up space firms. One of the first firms he visited was an up and coming new rocket company called SpaceX. Dr. Lembeck was instrumental in developing support within NASA to work with the new firm. Today, SpaceX and many other new commercial space firms are part of the rapid expansion of America’s commercial future in space. NASA acknowledged his leadership by presenting him with the Medal for Exceptional Engineering Achievement. Acima is proud to have Dr. Lembeck aboard to help us build new relationships in government and private industry.
