Software Engineer - Multiple Levels
DESCRIPTION: Acima Technical Services Inc. is a partner on the NASA Ames NAMS 2 contract supporting aerospace and advanced air transportation research, with a focus on advanced air mobility (AAM). We are currently seeking Software Engineers at multiple levels and skills to join our team of innovators to advance the future of aviation and safety in the skies.

Responsibilities:
- Develop principles to adapt to user requirements and improve software based on needs of researchers and project goals.
- Develop software requirements for NASA prototype system(s) supporting the evaluation with stakeholders.
- Manage and track software development tasks through regular team tagups and with JIRA tracking tool. New features and bug fixes and logged as JIRA issues for resolution by the software team. The engineer audits the JIRA issues to ensure that proper levels of details are included for use in documentation such as software release notes and for the testers of the software.
- Perform testing, integration and deployment tasks for collaborative demonstrations.
- Summarize data collection from demonstrations.
- Support research activities designed to improve the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) capabilities.
- Experience with Python, Matlab, SQL, database development, Java, C/C++, Linux.
- Expertise in software architecture, object-oriented design, unit testing required.
- In addition to proficiency with Jira, experience with Atlassian suite of tools highly desired.
- Knowledge of the Air Traffic Management (ATM) domain desired.
- Experience with general NoSQL databases, specifically design and development of knowledge graph software systems dealing with structured and unstructured data.
- Experience working with scripting languages like Python, R, AngularJS and Javascript.
- Knowledge of NASA/FAA airspace systems, ideally existing Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM) data models.
- Experience with design and implementation (including build, test, release, deploy and configuration) activities of related applications.
- Proficiency in DevOps discipline and processes supporting Continuous Delivery Tools such as Jenkins, Git, Ansible, CloudFormation.
- Expertise in Docker container technology and associated functionality.
Network Engineer
DESCRIPTION: Design, implement, test, secure and operate the mission network at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility (WFF). Network engineer working at Wallops must have advanced knowledge of Cisco routers, switching, and security. Successful candidate will provide network design, implementation support, and troubleshooting services. The Network Engineer will work closely with a Network Asset Planner and an IT Security Lead on day-to-day tasking and priorities related to engineering and sustaining engineering projects. - Support the Network Assessment and Assurance process by providing assessment artifacts and their generation as required, be available to during assessments to field Subject Matter Expert related questions, facilitate/enhance network security, and provide asset and configuration management data collection.

Aviation Systems Analysts
DESCRIPTION: Acima is seeking mid-level-to-senior Aviation Systems Analysts to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Next Generation Air Traffic Management (NextGen) System. These professionals will conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses using a combination of engineering, economic and management tools to define and create of systems design that lead up to concept demonstrations. These positions involve the following tasks: 1) conducting research, evaluations, analyses, and studies of alternative architectures in support of short and long-term program requirements; 2) developing architectural frameworks and models that support the assessment of various concepts of operations and system implementations; 3) performance of cost/benefit analyses, risk assessments, and engineering trades to establish optimal configurations and system solutions; and 4) evaluations of procedures and operations to ensure that proposed solutions result in future implementations that assuredly meet all system safety requirements. Emphasis will be placed on program management expertise to assist in formulating plans, budgets, and schedules with clear performance-based milestones.

Research Engineer/Scientist
DESCRIPTION: Acima is supporting government efforts to develop next generation systems for managing our national airspace that ensure operational safety. As more people rely on air transportation the demand for efficient air and ground systems grows proportionally. New types of aircraft (such as drones, personal air vehicles and electric aircraft) are being introduced to the system adding complexity and a demand for new air and ground services. The solutions Acima helps to develop must be safe, cost effective, environmentally responsive, reduce the potential for delays, and provide the services the traveling public demand. Our Research Engineers access large data repositories of actual flight, weather, navigation, geographic, and airport operational data that are updated daily. The goal is to analyze air traffic management solutions that employ advanced autonomy and software and test them using analytics, machine learning methods, and simulations built upon these data.
Your Responsibilities: You will work as a key member of a highly skilled collaborative research team. This requires the ability to bring forward innovative concepts and apply diverse skills to research feasibility and demonstrate results. Since these are research positions, you must be able to carefully structure your work and present results to peers and in open forums. You will be responsible for:
- Performing research into future advanced air traffic management concepts and methods
- Creating analytical methods to examine various advanced software and automation concepts designed to improve air traffic management capabilities
- Developing models, algorithms, machine learning methods, and optimization routines to analyze new concepts
- Working independently and being a self-starter while also participating effectively as part of a close-knit research team

- Minimum of 2 years of domain experience in areas such as aircraft flight control, flight modeling and simulation, route optimization, air traffic control systems, or aircraft flight dynamics
- Knowledge of research tools and practices; specifically, knowledge of data mining and machine learning
- Expertise with algorithm development, modeling and simulation, computational methods, and numerical analysis
- Strong background using software tools in a research setting; specifically:
- MATLAB and Python for script development
- Statistical analysis using Python, R, MATLAB
